All of Kenauk Nature’s chalets come fully equipped with canoes, kayaks and row boats. Paddle into the middle of the lake and take in the surrounding nature from a new perspective. This is the perfect way to explore your own private lake or discover hidden gems in Papineau Lake.

For our chalet guests, we also offer free paddle board rentals at Whitefish Lake. With 1 person paddle boards, all the way up to 8 person paddle boards, we have an exciting option that will meet your needs. Paddle boarding is accessible to everyone and requires no prior experience.

All of our boats include paddles and life jackets.

In the area for the day? It’s possible to enjoy Kenauk’s wilderness without having to stay in a chalet. Book a canoe, kayak or paddle board for a half-day or full day. This day pass allows you to paddle on Whitefish lake and the Kinonge river, giving you unique access to untouched nature. Fees apply. 

Please note that to protect our lakes, it is forbidden to bring any personal watercrafts to Kenauk Nature (boats, canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, inflatable water toys, etc.).

Where are the paddling activities located at Kenauk Nature?

Paddling activities at Kenauk Nature take place in the heart of the private Kenauk Nature reserve, located in the municipality of Montebello in the Outaouais region. The site is easily accessible from Montreal (approximately 90 minutes) and Ottawa (approximately 60 minutes).

Each chalet includes complimentary canoes, kayaks, and some paddleboards for guest use. For visitors not staying in a chalet, paddling activities are also available at the Whitefish Lake Activity Centre, where equipment can be rented to safely enjoy the lakes and river.

What paddling activities are available at Kenauk Nature?

A variety of paddling activities are available on the lakes of Kenauk Nature, allowing visitors to fully experience the landscape and natural surroundings.

You can enjoy:

  • Canoeing (2-person canoe)
  • Kayaking (single or double)
  • Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), including a giant board that can accommodate up to 8 people
  • Rabaska canoe, a large traditional canoe that can hold up to 15 people, offered as part of a guided experience

These activities allow you to explore the lakes at your own pace or as part of a guided outing.

Can I rent paddling equipment if I am visiting for the day?

Yes! Day visitors can rent canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards on-site.

Is there a minimum age to use the watercraft?

There is no strict minimum age for paddling activities. Children may participate at the discretion of their parents or guardians.

For safety reasons:

  • Wearing a personal flotation device (PFD) is mandatory for everyone and is included with the equipment
  • Swimming and water activities are unsupervised, so parents must supervise children at all times

Yes. Paddling at Kenauk Nature take place primarily on calm lakes, making them ideal for beginners. Whether canoeing, kayaking, or paddleboarding, participants can explore at their own pace in a peaceful natural setting.

Are paddling activities suitable for families or corporate groups?

Yes. Paddling at Kenauk Nature is well suited for both families and corporate groups. A variety of watercraft options can accommodate different group sizes, whether for a relaxing outing or a group experience like a guided rabaska excursion.

Are there group rates for water activities at Kenauk Nature?

Are there set duration for paddling activities?

The duration depends on the type of experience:

  • For day users, watercraft can be used for up to a full day
  • For chalet guests, the use of watercraft on their lake is generally unlimited throughout their stay

This flexibility allows you to enjoy the lakes at your own pace, whether for a short outing or a full day on the water.

Can I bring my own equipment?

No. To protect the lakes and aquatic ecosystems at Kenauk Nature, personal watercraft are not permitted. For this reason, personal canoes, kayaks, electric motors, paddleboards, or inflatable water toys are not allowed on the lakes. All required equipment is provided on-site as part of the available activities.

What should I bring for water activities at Kenauk Nature?

To make the most of your time on the lakes, we recommend bringing:

  • Sunscreen and a hat for sun protection, even on cloudy days
  • Weather-appropriate clothing (light layers in summer, waterproof gear if needed)
  • Swimsuit and towel if you plan to swim
  • Water and snacks to stay hydrated and energized

All specialized equipment (canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, PFDs, and guided rabaska) is provided on-site to ensure safety and comfort.

What safety measures are in place for paddling activities?

Participant safety is a priority, even though activities are not supervised.

To ensure safety:
