GUIDED FISHING OPTION: Having a guide allows you to access exclusive areas, such as catch & release trophy lakes! An undeniable advantage, not to mention the secrets and stories that will be shared with you.

Equipment: On-site, you will find a full range of equipment, boats, and fishing gear for individuals or groups. Our electric motors are allowed on all lakes except Lake Papineau, where gas-powered motors are provided. No external boats will be permitted within the reserve. To prevent the spread of invasive species in our pristine waters, electric motors brought from outside Kenauk are not allowed. Each of our lakes has a dedicated fleet of boats and motors.

Stocking: Kenauk has natural lakes with native fish, as well as stocked lakes with rainbow and brook trout from our fish hatchery.

Management: Electric motors are allowed on all lakes, but gas-powered motors are only permitted on Lake Papineau. Some lakes have mandatory catch-and-release policies to maintain healthy fish populations, while others are stocked, where fishing quotas apply. We also have lakes and rivers exclusively dedicated to fly fishing.

Catch and Release Tips:

  • Keep the fish fully submerged or wet at all times to protect their sensitive gills and skin from damage.
  • Handle fish gently and avoid squeezing or applying excessive pressure, as it can harm internal organs.
  • Minimize air exposure by reducing the time the fish spends out of the water, especially in warm weather.
  • Use wet hands or wet gloves when handling fish to prevent removing their protective slime coating.
  • Support the fish horizontally and avoid hanging or holding them vertically, as it can strain their spine and internal organs.
  • Use barbless hooks or crimp down barbs to facilitate quick and easy hook removal, minimizing injury to the fish.
  • Consider using a rubberized landing net or a wet towel to handle the fish, providing an extra layer of protection.
  • Release the fish gently and head-first back into the water, allowing them to swim away strong.

These tips aim to minimize stress and injury to the fish, ensuring their survival and promoting sustainable fishing practices. For additional information, you can visit Keep Fish Wet, a partnering organization dedicated to promoting responsible fish handling practices.
