Our courses are designed to accommodate a limited number of participants per instructor, ensuring personalized attention and lessons tailored to your specific learning goals and interests. Please note that the minimum age for participants is 7 years old, so bring your family and friends for a memorable experience.

Group Clinics

Introduction to Fly Fishing

Learn the basics of fly fishing in a group lesson format and develop your skills alongside fellow enthusiasts.

Content: Basic casting techniques. Instructors demonstrate various casting methods useful in both lakes and rivers, after which participants have the opportunity to try them themselves. The course takes place on grass and at casting practice ponds.

Equipment: All equipment is provided by your guide. Instructors will introduce the necessary gear, including different types of rods, reels, fly lines, leaders, and flies suited to a variety of fishing situations.

Casting Techniques: Focuses on teaching fundamental techniques, including the basic cast, roll cast, and false cast, giving participants a solid foundation to begin fly fishing.

Fishing Techniques: Covers basic fishing methods, with an emphasis on fundamental skills and presentation strategies.

Dates: May 16 (sold out) – May 30 – June 13 – August 15 – September 12

Duration: 4 hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Language: Bilingual

Capacity: 6 participants per training day (minimum of 2 participants required for the activity to run)

Cost: $125 per person, non-refundable, taxes included. If the activity is cancelled by Kenauk Nature, the amount will be refunded.

Private Lessons

Beginner Fly Fishing Clinic (2 hours)

Location: This clinic takes place at the fly fishing school, on a grassy area and practice pond.

Content: Basic casting techniques, perfect for beginners. Instructors demonstrate different types of introductory casting techniques before giving participants the chance to try it for themselves.  

Equipment: All equipment is provided for our guests. Instructors will give participants a basic summary of rods, reels, lines, leaders and flies.   

Casting Techniques: Focuses on teaching fundamental casting techniques, including the basic overhead cast, roll cast, and false casting, providing participants with a solid foundation to start fly fishing. 

Fishing Technique: Covers basic fishing techniques, focusing on fundamental skills and presentation strategies.  

Cost: $ 150.00 / 1 person and $ 40.00 per additional person – Maximum of four people per instructor.

Introduction Package (4 hours)

Location: This lesson takes place at the fly fishing school, on a grassy area and practice pond.

Content: Covers basic casting fundamentals and techniques to get beginners started. 
Introduces foundational knowledge on gear, knots, fly selection, and basic fishing strategies.  

Equipment: Introduces participants to basic fly fishing equipment, including fly rods, reels, fly lines, leaders, tippets, and a selection of commonly used flies suitable for beginners.  

Casting Techniques: Focuses on teaching fundamental casting techniques, including the basic overhead cast, roll cast, and false casting, providing participants with a solid foundation to start fly fishing.

Fishing Technique: Covers basic fishing techniques, focusing on fundamental skills and presentation strategies.  

Cost: $ 220.00 / 1 person and $ 80.00 per additional person – Maximum of four people per instructor.

Intermediate – Advanced (6 hours)

Location: This lesson takes place at the fly fishing school, on a grassy area and practice pond.

Content: Focuses on advanced casting techniques, such as accuracy, distance, and specialized casts. 
Explores advanced topics like entomology, fly tying, and specific fishing tactics for different environments.

Equipment: Includes a wider range of specialized fly fishing equipment, such as advanced fly rods and reels designed for specific techniques and environments, specialized fly lines, leaders, tippets, and a broader selection of flies to match different fishing scenarios.  

Casting Techniques: Practice advanced casting techniques, such as double haul casting, reach casting, slack line presentations, and aerial mends, enabling participants to cast with greater accuracy, distance, and precision in various fishing scenarios.    

Fishing Technique: Explores specialized fishing techniques, emphasizing advanced strategies for reading water, understanding fish behavior, and adapting to various fishing conditions.   

Cost: $ 375.00 / 1 person and $ 115.00 per additional person – Maximum of four people per instructor.

Stillwater Combination (8 hours)

Location: This lesson takes place partly at the fly fishing school, on grassy surfaces and on Mills Lake, in a fishing situation.

Content: Focuses on the principles and techniques of fly fishing in lakes, ponds, and reservoirs, where there is little to no current. 
Covers topics such as understanding lake ecosystems, studying the behavior of stillwater fish, and learning effective presentations and retrieves for enticing fish in a stillwater environment.  

Equipment: Discusses equipment suitable for stillwater fishing, including versatile fly rods, reels with adjustable drag systems, floating and sinking fly lines, leaders, tippets, and a selection of imitative flies, such as nymphs, emergers, dry flies, and streamers, to mimic the diverse food sources found in lakes and reservoirs.   

Casting Techniques: Covers specific casting techniques relevant to stillwater fishing, including the roll cast pickup, reach cast, slack line presentations, and various retrieves to effectively present flies to fish in lakes and reservoirs, adapting to different wind and water conditions.

Fishing Technique: Focuses on techniques for fishing in lakes and reservoirs, including strategies for finding fish, lake structure understanding, boat positioning, fishing with indicators, dry fly and emerger presentations, and streamer techniques for stillwater environments.

Cost: $ 650.00 / 1 person and $ 150.00 per additional person – Maximum of two people per instructor

Do I need a fishing license for the fly fishing school?

No! A fishing license is not required (unless the lesson includes a lake outing).

The school focuses on learning fly casting on land and does not involve actual fishing.

All necessary equipment is provided by Kenauk Nature, including rods, reels, and flies. Participants only need to bring:

  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Comfortable shoes
  • A water bottle

How long does a fly fishing lesson last?

Lesson duration varies depending on the type of lesson:

  • Introductory sessions: approximately 2 hours
  • More in-depth or specialized sessions: up to 8 hours

Each session is designed to help participants develop strong casting skills while progressing at their own pace with personalized instruction.
