A Look at Our Sustainable Forestry Vision
At Kenauk Nature, our commitment to conservation goes far beyond preserving natural landscapes. Our 25,000-hectare protected forest is at the heart of our conservation story. It is overseen by the Kenauk Institute, the custodians of the property who have become an open-air lab where multiple university partners are able to conduct research. We’re proud to be one of the research sites in the DIVERSE Project, a pan-Canadian research initiative dedicated to making forests more resilient to climate change.
Did we mention that our forest was SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) certified? Along with the help of Les Conseillers Forestiers de l’Outaouais, we implement sustainable harvesting practices and ensure responsible forest management that promotes the health and resilience of our forests. This type of sustainable and proactive forestry helps our forest ecosystems adapt and thrive.
But our approach doesn’t stop there! In our day to day, we strive to reuse the resource harvested on the property; sometimes transformed into firewood or mulch for landscaping, and other times into furniture, such as tables, benches, or even axe handles, that our visitors can use and appreciate. See how the Kenauk team transforms some of the harvested trees in pieces of furniture and objects that are used daily:
By visiting Kenauk Nature, you become active partners in conservation and research. Thank you for supporting our vision!
