Kenauk is well known as one of Quebec’s premier fishing destinations, in the winter you can fish both rainbow and speckled trout. This variety ensures excellent fishing all winter long with Kenauk’s unmatched privacy and scenery. Our fishery biologists ensure lakes receive a balanced supply of prized rainbow and speckled trout for your enjoyment.

Whether you’re a novice or an old hand, ice fishing is a unique opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled day out with family and friends.

Ice fishing takes place on the private Kenauk Nature reserve in Montebello, Outaouais. The property is just 90 minutes from Montreal and 60 minutes from Ottawa.

If you are staying in a chalet with a private lake, fishing can be done on the lake directly in front of your chalet. This applies for chalet Makwa, Taunton, Wilson, and Bent.

For day visitors or guided trips, the lake is chosen by the guide to ensure the best fishing conditions, often at Lake Mills.

What types of fish can be caught during ice fishing at Kenauk Nature?

Depending on the lake, you may catch:

  • Rainbow trout (Lakes Mills or Taunton)
  • Brook trout (Lake Bent)

Each location is selected to provide optimal fishing conditions and a memorable experience on the ice.

Is ice fishing suitable for beginners and experienced anglers?

Can I do ice fishing with family or friends?

Yes! The activity is open to groups. For optimal experience, a ratio of 6 people or fewer per guide is recommended.

What is the minimum recommended age for ice fishing?

No minimum age is required: the activity is suitable for the whole family, from children to adults.

Is ice fishing available to day visitors without chalet accommodation?

Yes, it is available only with a guide for day visitors, from Monday to Thursday.

Is fishing equipment included in the guided package?

Yes! The guided package includes a fishing rod, lures, and all necessary equipment. Depending on conditions, the guide may also provide an ice fishing tent and adapt equipment for a safe and comfortable experience.

Does ice fishing depend on ice or weather conditions?

Safety is our priority. Ice fishing requires a minimum ice thickness of 15 cm, but the activity can take place in all weather conditions.

If the ice is deemed unsafe, the activity will be canceled to ensure the safety of all participants.

What safety measures are in place for ice fishing?

Safety is a top priority: ice thickness is checked daily to ensure all conditions are safe before the activity begins.

What clothing and equipment are recommended to stay warm and comfortable while ice fishing?

To fully enjoy the ice fishing experience, we recommend:

  • Layering (“onion layers”): merino wool and intermediate layers for optimal insulation.
  • Two pairs of gloves, especially if the first pair might get wet.
  • Waterproof, warm boots to stay dry and comfortable.
  • Hand and foot warmers for extra comfort in cold weather.

What are the quotas and fishing fees for ice fishing?

Each license allows the capture of up to 5 trout, with no minimum size. Fishing fees are additional.
